Swedish car company Volvo Cars and fashion designer Phillip Lim have just launched an innovative leather-free handbag. Through his Phillip Lim 3.1 brand, Lim created this handbag to showcase Nordico, a vegan interior material planned to debut in the next generation of all-electric Volvo cars. Nordico was created by Volvo to help car companies achieve their sustainability goals. It is made from recycled materials such as PET bottles, bio-attributed materials from sustainable forests in Sweden and Finland, and corks recovered from the wine industry.

"From the beginning, sustainability has been part of the 3.1 brand; striving to achieve a sustainable balance in everything we do. Our brand slogan is to do less, do more," Lin said in a statement. "Connecting with Volvo on this sustainability project is an instant consistency of values."

As a world-renowned fashion designer, Lim has previously created a carbon neutral dress with sequins made of algae bioplastics inspired by marine ecosystems. In the cooperation with Volvo, Lim built Nordico handbags for eco-conscious travelers around the principle of "Luxstainability". This is the trend that Volvo identified in its report on the rise of consciousness design. The key is to get rid of unsustainable leather such as leather. Material while still maintaining the quality of luxurious design. This handbag is inspired by a simple Scandinavian design, with discreet storage space, double shoulder straps and a special iconic small bag. It is currently not available for purchase, but will be used for charity auctions and gifts.

Robin Page, head of design at Volvo, said in a statement: "We have a vision of where we need to go in the future. The first step is to ensure that we use sustainable, natural and recyclable materials." "With 3.1 Phillip Lim Working together to create a bag inspired by future materials strengthens our ambition to challenge the wider design industry to reconsider the materials we use."

Earlier this year, Volvo promised to only produce electric cars, starting with its new C40 Recharge, which is an electric crossover coupe SUV. The new C40 Recharge also ushered in a new leather-free era for Volvo. The company's goal is to sell only electric vehicles made with leather-free interiors by 2030 as part of its goal to become a recycling business by 2040.

In order to set standards for other industries in the automotive industry, Volvo is also committed to removing by-products from the cattle industry from automotive components such as plastics, rubber, lubricants and adhesives. "From creating a runway series to car interiors, we have a shared responsibility to find sustainable material alternatives," said Page.

The Volvo X Phillip Lim handbag was launched after the launch of similar products to the footwear brand Casca. The brand launched a limited edition sneaker made of sustainable materials to commemorate World Car Free Day. In short, these collaborations represent a greater shift in the fashion and automotive industries away from materials that are harmful to the environment, such as leather.

"I strongly believe that in our current collective mentality, we are free to find sustainable solutions with new materials while still being able to achieve high design," Lin said in a statement, adding, "This is The ultimate luxury."
