After more than a year of darkness, The Drake Seafood and Oysterette reopened today.

In the preview last Thursday, a friend of mine had dinner with me. We ate fresh pink lady and Malpec oysters, kung pao squid, pan-fried scallops, cashew skin grouper, butter mashed potatoes, homemade Yeast rolls and lemon cloud pie.

The welcome is the delicious and eclectic return of Drake, starting with fresh oysters on the half shell and breathtaking kung pao squid.

Groupers and scallops are new items on the menu, and their taste, texture, and color create an olfactory hum. Grouper with cashew peel and creamy lime risotto and coconut serrano broth. The scallops are served with fresh green apple slices and lovely butternut squash, shallots and black garlic oil.

We also shared some brown butter mashed potatoes, which seemed to need gravy at first, but sighed without eating. The same is true for the new yeast rolls, which are part of Drake's new bread service.

The Drake restaurant only offers dinner service from Tuesday to Saturday.
