Oyster Week came to a close Saturday with Oyster Fest at Bernie's Beach Bar in Hampton.

The event showcased music, drinks and all-you-can-eat oysters from six local farmers.

The New Hampshire Shellfish Farmers Initiative organized the event. The group is made up of all 14 oyster farmers in the Seacoast. Organizers said they want people to know the environmental and economic benefits of oyster farming.

Organizer Kelsey Meyer said these events are also great for the environment in Great Bay and Hampton.

"We're taking all the shells that were used tonight, and we're putting them back into Great Bay," Meyer said. "That will actually help create more oysters. Oyster larvae are attracted to the shells, so that will help repopulate the oyster population."

Swell Oyster Company co-owner Russ Hilliard said they had a great turnout.

"A bunch of New Hampshire farms came and showed out," Hilliard said.

Attendee Noah Frodyma said the event, which is in its second year, is a great way to make revenue.

"Great for the people, everyone loves them. Everyone comes out to support them," Frodyma said.
