Bhubaneswar: Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Khordha organized a one-day twin training and frontline demonstration (FLD) today in the Balipatna neighborhood of Khordha district. The training on "Enhancing Women's Empowerment Through Straw Mushroom Planting" was conducted by subject matter expert (family science) Dr. Harapriya Nayak and Mrs. Sukanti Behera ACTO (family science) and subject matter expert Sri Ajay Kumar Dash (horticulture) in Padmapur Village Carried out "Orchard layout and management". Each training program has 50 peasant women belonging to the scheduled caste categories from different self-help groups (SHG) to participate. Dr. SK Swain, director of ICAR-CIFA in Bhubaneswar, initiated the training program in Dhanahara village as the chief guest. In his inauguration speech, he emphasized the importance of mushroom cultivation as an agribusiness activity in the agricultural community. He also emphasized that mushrooms have the potential to provide local farmers and unemployed youth with improved and sustainable livelihood opportunities, because mushrooms as a nutritious and healthy food have an increasing demand for deliciousness. Dr. SS Giri, KVK, the head of Khordha, as the node officer of the project, introduced ICAR-KVK, Khordha's efforts to create employment and livelihoods for farmers in the Khordha area in the agricultural sector. A total of 500 straw mushroom strains (OSM 11 and OSM 12), polyethylene, gram flour, bleaching powder, and CaCo3 were distributed to five peasant women of the scheduled caste category for demonstration on the front line of straw mushroom planting. The subject matter expert (Family Science) Dr. Harapriya Nayak welcomed the delegates and briefly introduced the nutritional and medicinal value of mushrooms. Ms. Sukanti Behera of ACTO (Family Science) facilitated the training and provided detailed information on straw mushroom cultivation practices. Subject matter expert (horticulture) Sri Ajay Kumar Dash introduced the management of the orchard in Padmapur Village. Sri. PR Sahoo, subject matter expert (fisheries) also participated in these courses. The trainees were visited for the subject areas of the training.
