It is our necks that give away our age first - so we put neck creams to the test and here's what we found | The US Sun

WE all look after our faces. But it is our necks and decolletage that will give away our age first.

Many beauty experts call this the “forgotten zone”.

The thin skin on the neck needs special protection.

Today I put neck creams to the test.

Q+A 5-HTP face and neck cream (50g, £12, qandaskin.com): 5-HTP comes from griffonia seeds and is said to tighten the skin and aid skin suppleness.

It helps improve elasticity as well as supporting collagen synthesis, and is designed to leave your skin feeling fresh and revitalised.

This also contains caffeine to help refresh your skin and reduce puffiness and biosaccharide gum for intense moisturisation to help reduce the appearance of fine lines.

No scent, medium-thickness white cream that sinks straight into your neck.

Not quite as nourishing as Espa but for the price, it’s great. My neck looked moisturised and less crinkly.

ESPA Tri-Active Lift & Firm neck and decollete balm (55ml, £52, espaskincare.com): This contains tree fern and shiitake mushroom to tighten and firm.

There is also brown seaweed called sea amber to nourish and plump, safflower oil to moisturise, wild olive to increase the production of collagen, and petitgrain, bergamot and lavender aromatherapy oils.

The balm claims to tackle the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crepiness, while helping the neck look more sculpted and defined – and it does!

Because this pretty light pink cream smells so gorgeous and feels luxurious, you actually want to massage it in.

It is more like a cream than a balm, that sinks straight in. After only a few applications, my neck looked smoother, softer and supple. I will keep buying this one. My favourite.

IS Clinical Neck Perfect Complex (£88, 50g, skinstation.co.uk): It claims to lift, tighten and sculpt sagging or thinning skin on the neck, jawline and decollete, while delivering intense and penetrating hydration and potent antioxidant protection to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydrolysed rice protein and vitamin B5 encourage the natural production of healthy collagen, restructuring and plumping the skin. Hyaluronic acid deeply hydrates, while hydrolysed quinoa defends against daily environmental aggressors.

It also contains mixed fruit acids and willow bark extract to exfoliate. This stuff is brilliant.

A couple of squirts on your neck and it really does get rid of “crepey”, horrible skin. But boy, does it sting.

SERIOUS about skincare? Spend £45 with Origins in store or online until September 6 and you’ll receive a goody bag with six of the brand’s top skincare best-sellers, worth a whopping £78.

Now the kids are going back to school, it’s time to pamper yourself!
